What is Pilates?
Pilates is a full-body movement method designed to strengthen, stretch, and restore balance. Through controlled, precise movements, it builds core strength, improves posture, and develops deep body awareness — supporting both performance and everyday life.
Why Choose a Classical Pilates Education at Kjernekraft?
At Kjernekraft, we teach Pilates true to its roots, based on Joseph Pilates’ original system and the full range of classical apparatus. Following the traditional order of exercises, you learn to understand the method as an integrated whole — not just individual movements.
Our approach develops motor control, elasticity, and functional strength through rhythm, flow, and precision. With equipment built to original specifications, you gain a deeper experience of how the body works as a connected system.
Inspired by the Pilates E-motion methodology, our education supports curiosity, clarity, and confidence — giving you the tools to teach with depth, authenticity, and purpose.
At Kjernekraft Comprehensive Classical Pilates School, our approach is rooted in dedication, presence, and respect. We teach Classical Pilates as a dynamic practice where every exercise is a full-body exercise built on a two-way stretch from a strong center, working from the inside out. The sequence is intentional—each movement prepares the next—guiding students from gross, foundational patterns toward refined, well-coordinated control. As Joseph Pilates said, “change happens through movement, and movement heals.” We believe the most important thing is to get the body moving, without too much interruption. Through the repetition of the exercises, the body begins to understand and in this way the exercises teach us. As educators, we create space for transformation through thoughtful structure and minimal, precise communication—verbal and non-verbal—so students can listen deeply to their own bodies. A strong personal practice is essential for understanding the work and becoming a skilled teacher. Our attitude is grounded in care, kindness, curiosity, and humor. Every teacher and student is a researcher on a journey together - the teacher is the guide.
“Every moment of our life can be the beginning of great things.”
— Joseph Pilates

Everyone is highly qualified professionals with a great deal of experience. In my opinion, the training is unique in how outstanding they are professionally-they operate at an elite level, yet Carla, Cyrena, and Kolbjørn remain deeply human and teach with humility. The nature of the body and human movement deeply engage them, they are open and understanding, and extremely attentive-True Masters in the original sense of the word. -Anita

The pilates education at Kjernekraft was my first education in pilates after practicing for many years on my own and visiting classes. It's been a very supportive and inspiring experience that has given me a new perspective on what classical pilates is and what its intentions are. With level one we have learned the most foundational exercises and essentials of the method. Now after level one, I feel much more confident and also curious about the development of this new perspective.

The Level 1 training at Kjernekraft has been a great investment for me. The seminars are rich in content and the feedback is broad and well-rounded. It’s great to work in a close-knit group, with lots of hands-on practice. There’s a good balance of theory and practice, and it’s wonderful to have a clear and structured compendium to refer back to. Through this education, you become part of a lineage of a very healthy and accessible form of classical Pilates. A sense of playfulness, curiosity, and simple principles of movement are embedded in the studio and always have space.

I really love how the education puts such an emphasis on really getting the practice into the body, and seeing and feeling the system as intended- because it really works! Being such a small group as well, and being encouraged to reflect, ask questions and share experiences throughout the education has been great. Carla and Cyrena really have made this such a good experience, sharing their knowledge, and being supportive and making it such a safe space to continue to learn and explore the movement and the system

Carla and Cyrena have a deep knowledge of the Pilates method. They teach with humor and guide each student intuitively through their own practice. This education is comprehensive and includes all of the apparatus and mat work. This leads you to understand connections between the exercises taught on the different pieces of equipment. After teaching and practicing Pilates for many years I finally understand Pilates as a holistic method rather than separate exercises.

Carla Dressler
Carla’s lifelong passion for movement began in childhood, inspired by the 1976 Olympics and a fascination with how the body can move, perform, and evolve. This curiosity led to years of exploration across athletics and, later, martial arts in the early 1990s, where Wing Chun and Tai Chi became both a practice and a teaching path.
After a hip injury, Pilates was introduced as rehabilitation—but quickly became a deeper pursuit. Driven by ongoing curiosity and a desire to understand the method more fully, Carla completed two contemporary pilates educations. But it wasn’t until she was introduced to classical pilates through the lineage of Jay Grimes that things finally began to make sense. This journey led to a 3rd education, this time in the classical method in Denmark, where she met Gloria Gasperi and later Lesley Bell, from the Pilates E-motion school. She finally felt like she found her home. Carla completed their full Pilates education and is starting the Master’s program in July 2026.
The path toward becoming an educator emerged naturally over time, inspired by witnessing the profound impact this method has on people’s lives. Today, the focus is on sharing that knowledge—helping others build a meaningful connection to their own bodies, discover the power of movement, and move toward better health. It is a passion rooted in the belief that this work is too valuable not to pass on.
